George McLean Park Playground – Burnaby

5477 Patterson Ave, Burnaby, BC V5H 2M6

George McLean Park’s playground is located on Patterson Avenue crossing Bond Street in Burnaby. It doesn’t have a lot of amenities, but they are all well thought out. The playground is located in the center of the park which is far from the streets on all sides. It contains 1 medium-sized slide on rubber hilled-ground, 1 large swing on wood chips, and 1 large sandbox with a water outlet. There are lots of benches and tables for adults. This playground is suitable for toddlers and preschoolers, but there are not enough amenities to keep middle childhood kids engaged.

Pros

  • Large park areas create buffers from the playground
  • Good quality equipment

Cons

  • Limited choice of amenities
  • Playground far from street parking

Play Equipment

  • 1 Slide
  • 1 Swing
  • Large sandbox
  • 1 Bridge

Notable Features

  • Good quality equipment
  • Large park area

Age Group

  • Toddlers
  • Preschoolers

For Parents

  • Benches near playground
  • Tables with chessboard

Surface Material

  • Wood Chips
  • Asphalt
  • Rubber

The Slide has a good slope:

The slide has a good slope that is less likely for kids to get stuck on the slide due to friction and is not steep enough to be scary for preschoolers. I did not notice any static created by the slide

The Swing is quite large:

The single swing has a large platform for 1 adult and 1 preschooler to sit on. This is a really good feature for toddlers who are afraid to go onto the swing themselves and want an adult to go with them.

The Sandbox comes with water:

The decent-sized sandbox comes with a water outlet where kids can wet the sands to make sand into castles or other shapes without going to the beach. As wet sands are easier to shape and more fun but only possible when near a water source like on a beach, this sandbox is quite luxurious.

Other Amenities in George McLean Park in Burnaby

Other amenities include lots of seatings around the playground and tables with chessboard patterns. There is also a small arch bridge about a foot off the ground near the playground where kids can enjoy going on a bridge in a safe environment. Many seniors are in the park, and they always welcome kids with warm smiles. I haven’t seen any dogs off-leash in this park, so that’s always a plus for kids’ safety.

Although George McLean Park’s playground has a limited amount of amenities, careful plannings are evident in the ones they have. This is a good quality playground for toddlers, and I would bring my kid here again.
