Have you guys ever helped Mom set the table and then heard a sweet little “Thank you!”? In American restaurants, a tip is kind of like saying “thank you” with money — a warm way to appreciate the people who take care of you during your meal!
You know what? In the U.S., servers have a special pay system. Their basic wage is lower than usual, so they need tips to earn enough money. It’s a bit like when you clean your room and Mom gives you some allowance to cheer you on — tips are rewards for good service!
Here’s a fun little secret — tipping has been part of American culture for more than 100 years! People got used to giving extra money to thank someone for helping them, and over time it became a rule that almost everyone follows.
And guess what? When people leave tips, servers feel happy and work even harder to take good care of their customers! If a server kindly pours your juice, explains the menu, and checks on you with a big smile, getting a tip makes their day brighter — and keeps that kindness going!
