Have you guys ever made a funny “poof poof” sound with your mouth, like pretending to spit? In Greece, that sound is actually a good luck tradition — kind of like when we say “stay safe and lucky!”

You know what? This custom comes from a very old story! Long ago, Greeks believed that when you compliment someone — like saying “You’re so cute!” — jealous little spirits might try to bring bad luck. So people made a soft “poo-poo” sound to scare the bad spirits away!

Here’s a fun secret — they’re not really spitting! They just make the noise or pretend to spit three times to keep the bad luck far, far away. It’s like playing a little guard-the-good-luck game!

This tradition is especially popular when someone compliments a baby. Greek families use the “poo-poo” sound to protect their sweet little ones.
