Hi there, kiddos! It’s Big Sis Aris! Today we’re answering a super interesting question about manners — why can’t you touch someone’s head in Thailand?

Have you guys ever had a grown-up gently pat your head and say, “Good job!”? In Thailand, it’s different — the head is believed to be the most special and sacred part of the whole body! Imagine your head as a tiny home where a cute little spirit lives. ding-dong! If someone touches it without asking, it might feel like you’re disturbing that spirit!

You know what? Thai people believe the head is where the soul lives — just like a king lives in a grand castle. Touching someone’s head without permission is like walking into someone’s room without knocking. It’s considered very impolite.

Here’s a cool secret — even hairdressers in Thailand put their hands together and softly say “sorry” before cutting someone’s hair. They’re not apologizing because they did something wrong — they’re showing respect! It’s just like how we take off our shoes before entering a temple.

And guess what? This custom comes from Thailand’s strong Buddhist traditions. In Buddhism, the head is the most honorable part of the body, while the feet are the lowest. So from top to bottom, there are special manners to follow!

If you touched a Thai kid’s head without asking, their parents might get worried. And think about this — if someone grabbed your favorite toy without permission, wouldn’t you feel upset too?

So in Thailand, not touching someone’s head is a way to show respect and protect something precious — just like keeping a treasure safe!

Remember, kiddos — if you meet a friend from Thailand, you can place your hands together, give a warm smile, and say “Sawasdee ka!” And if you want to give a compliment, use your words instead of touching their head.
