Hi there, kiddos! It’s Big Sis Aris! Today we’re answering a very interesting question about manners — why is using your left hand considered impolite in India?

Have you guys ever used your left hand to draw or grab a snack? Well, in Indian culture, the left hand and right hand are like two helpers with different jobs — each one has its own special role!

You know what? In traditional Indian customs, the left hand is used for cleaning tasks, like washing up after using the bathroom or handling trash. The right hand is the hand for eating, passing things to others, and greeting people. Pretty unique, right?

Here’s a little secret — this tradition is linked to the Indian way of eating with their hands! People use their clean right hand to pick up food. If someone used their left hand instead, it would feel a bit like handing someone a cookie with a tissue you just blew your nose on… yikes! That wouldn’t feel very nice, would it?

And guess what? Because the left hand is considered “less clean,” Indians use the right hand when giving things to others. If you really need both hands, make sure the right hand is on top — that shows politeness and respect.

If you went to India and handed money to a shopkeeper with your left hand, they might frown. And imagine if someone gave you candy with a dirty hand — you wouldn’t want to take it, right?

So in Indian culture, using the right hand is an important part of showing kindness, respect, and good manners!
