Hi there, kiddos! It’s Big Sis Aris! Today we’re solving a fun holiday mystery — why does the U.S. celebrate Thanksgiving in November, but Canada celebrates it in October?
Have you guys ever noticed that the leaves don’t all turn red at the same time in different countries? Imagine nature as a magical painter — whoosh! — brushing autumn colors onto every place, each with its own special schedule!
You know what? In the United States, Thanksgiving is in November because a long, long time ago, early settlers celebrated after their harvest. They wanted to give thanks for the good crops and for the Native people who helped them. November was the perfect time — just after the last harvest — when everyone had plenty of food to share. Kind of like how you guys share snacks at school, right? munch munch!
Now in Canada, things are a little different! Since the weather is colder and fall comes earlier, farmers finish their harvest around October. That’s why they celebrate Thanksgiving sooner — before winter arrives! It’s their way of saying thanks for the year’s blessings, just like when you guys jump and play in crunchy fall leaves with big smiles on your faces! crunch crunch!
And guess what? The two countries have their own traditions because of history and culture. The U.S. and Canada are like two good friends — they celebrate in similar ways, but at different times that fit their own seasons best.
If both countries had Thanksgiving on the same day, it might feel a little less special, don’t you think? Every country’s celebration has its own rhythm — its own little secret that makes it unique.
So, having Thanksgiving in different months is kind of like how every family has its own way of doing things — each one just right for them!
Next time you see the leaves turning red, take a moment to notice how autumn changes around you. And if you discover any new holiday secrets, don’t forget to tell Big Sis Aris — let’s be holiday detectives together!
